School children in Bendum.jpgESSC is working with Apu Palamguwan Cultural Education Center (APC) to enhance its cultural documentation on environmental management.

APC operates an upland elementary school for indigenous peoples in Bendum, a village in Northern Mindanao where the Pulangiyen community lives. The APC school has a culture-based curriculum that uses mother tongue based multilingual education (MLE). Recently, UNESCO-Bangkok undertook an evaluation of the APC school to assist the MLE program. In relation, APC is gathering other indigenous school representatives, government officials, and assisting groups in Mindanao on 16 to 18 November 2009 in Malaybalay, Bukidnon to share and exchange at the Conference on Culture, Environment and Education in Mindanao: Advancing Indigenous Peoples’ Knowledge and Learning through Multilingual Education.
